Under the Government’s Project 515 and the directive of the Military Region 4 Command, Steering Committee 515 of Nghe An province has entrusted the team with the noble mission of searching for and bringing back Vietnamese sons who sacrificed their lives in three Lao provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane, and Xaysomboun.

The journey to find comrades is never easy. Yet, for years, the team has never faltered. Each campaign begins with careful preparation of personnel, equipment, and logistics. They closely work with Lao forces to conduct information dissemination, encouraging organizations, individuals, especially war veterans to help locate and identify burial sites. Many members of the team are seasoned and well-versed in local customs, terrains, and language, which helps foster trust among local residents.

“For years working in Laos, being away from home has become familiar to us. But in return, we are embraced by the deep affection of Lao officials and people. They treat us like family members. During major holidays and festivals, that bond becomes even stronger. This is a powerful source of encouragement for us to continue fulfilling this sacred duty,” said Colonel Che Ngoc Ha, the team’s leader.

Since the 2020–2021 dry season, the team has recovered the remains of 457 Vietnamese martyrs in Laos. Beyond this solemn task, members of the team have conducted various humanitarian activities such as providing free medical care and medicines for more than 2,500 Lao citizens; donating over 1.2 tons of dry rations and 3,500 sets of clothing; helping local villagers harvest rice, repairing homes, and cleaning public areas. These quiet, practical actions continue to strengthen the special bond between Vietnam and Laos and foster the Lao people’s trust.
