The search and collection force recovers two sets of martyrs’ remains. |
Earlier, the unit received information indicating possible martyrs’ remains at a construction site within the premises of the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Branch of the Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (Agribank).
During an initial survey, the Search and Collection Team No.2 discovered a number of military items, including tarpaulins, ammunition boxes, AK magazine pouches, and backpacks. As the search area was expanded, multiple bone fragments were found mixed with bricks and stones.
Further verification determined that the site was a mass grave containing two sets of martyrs’ remains. The martyrs are believed to have died when a bunker collapsed during a bombing.
The remains were then taken to the Agribank’s Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Branch building, where officers and staff arranged proper protection, care, and incense offerings in accordance with regulations.
The search team is currently coordinating with relevant agencies to further expand the search area.

The Search and Collection Team No.1 recovers another set of martyrs’ remains in Bai Dinh village, Dan Hoa commune. |
* On the same day, in Bai Dinh village, Dan Hoa commune, the Search and Collection Team No.1 under the Quang Tri provincial Military Command recovered another set of martyrs’ remains.
The unit had previously found two sets of remains in the same area. To widen the search perimeter by about five meters, the team carried out systematic excavation, carefully removing the soil layer by layer.
At a depth of around 1.2 meters in the site of a former cemetery, now a melaleuca forest owned by local residents, the team uncovered one set of remains.
The remains, wrapped in a tarpaulin, were severely decomposed, with most having turned into dark soil. Only a 19-centimeter section of an arm bone remained intact. The team also recovered eight military uniform buttons, 18 coffin nails, one tarpaulin, and one tying cord. The martyr’s identity and hometown have yet to be determined.
Immediately after the recovery, the search team preserved the remains and belongings for further examination and verification.
The unit also arranged proper care and incense offerings in accordance with local customs, expressing deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national independence and freedom.
