The sets of remains of the fallen troops were collected in the Cambodian provinces of Svay Rieng, Pailin,  Battambang in the 2021-2022 dry season by Search and Collection Team K73 of the provincial military command.

During the collection and repatriation of the remains in Cambodia, Team K73 received due care and support from local authorities, armed forces and people.

The memorial and burial service took place in a solemn atmosphere, demonstrating the token of gratitude and the national tradition of “When drinking waters, remember its source,” and “Gratitude paying” as well as the great efforts of Long An province’s party leaders, authorities, troops and people in implementing post-war policies.

Forty-two sets of remains of fallen troops were repatriated home through Binh Hiep International Border Gate in Kien Tuong town and then were reburied at Vinh Hung - Tan Hung War Cemetery in Vinh Hung district, Long An province.

At the event, the provincial People’s Committee’s Deputy Chairman Pham Tan Hoa expressed his deep gratitude to the martyrs for their great sacrifice in the national border protection struggle, and in helping Cambodians escape from the Pol Pot genocidal regime as well as in Cambodia’s renewal, national construction and defense cause.

The search, collection and repatriation of remains of fallen troops helped ease pains taken by their families and other compatriots, showed good national tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source,” and educated young generations of the love for the homeland.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, since 2001, Team K73 has gathered and repatriated home 2,248 sets of remains of fallen soldiers and six mass graves with some 280 sets of remains in Cambodia.
