Vietnamese coast guards accompany fishermen in Vinh Hai commune

On the day, activities within the “Coast guards stand by fishermen” program were also held.  

Speaking at the event, Pham Ngoc Nga, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinh Hai commune, said that Vinh Hai is a coastal locality where many households depend on fishing for their livelihoods. In recent years, local authorities have identified marine economic development in conjunction with safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands and strict compliance with fisheries regulations as an important task.

Gifts presented to needy fishermen and families

The “Coast guards stand by fishermen” program helps raise awareness and responsibility among local authorities and residents of the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies on national sovereignty over sea and islands and the prevention of IUU fishing. It also encourages fishermen to continue working at sea and developing their household economies.

During the event, officers from the Coast Guard Region 3 Command briefed participants on IUU fishing regulations, the Fisheries Law and the Viet Nam Coast Guard Law. Fishing ship owners, operators, captains and others involved in fishing activities also signed commitments not to engage in IUU fishing.

The organizers presented 40 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to policy families and disadvantaged fishermen, as well as scholarships to students from low-income families who have overcome difficulties in their studies.

At My Tan Fishing Port, the delegation presented national flags, life jackets and flashlights to fishermen and distributed leaflets, handbooks and other materials on relevant laws to fishing ship owners.
