The event was held to implement cooperation programs between Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the Coast Guard Region 3 Command.
As part of the program, Coast Guard Region 3 officers conducted legal awareness activities at Cat Lo Fishing Port and the Meeting Hall of the People’s Committee of Phuoc Thang Ward. They introduced key provisions of the Law on Fisheries, the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard, and regulations aimed at preventing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Informational leaflets were also distributed to vessel owners, captains, and local fishermen.

Addressing the event, Senior Colonel Nguyen Duc Hieu, Deputy Commander for Legal Affairs of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, said Vietnam has made significant progress in combating IUU fishing but must continue addressing remaining shortcomings to secure the removal of the E.C.'s "yellow card" warning.
He urged fishermen to strictly comply with fisheries regulations, avoid operating in foreign waters, keep vessel monitoring systems fully operational, maintain fishing logbooks as required by law, and cooperate with relevant authorities to promote the sustainable development of the sector.

During the program, Hung Vuong Hospital, in collaboration with the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, provided free medical examinations, health consultations, and medicines to more than 400 policy-beneficiary families and disadvantaged fishermen in Phuoc Thang Ward.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee presented 40 gift packages to local households, while the Coast Guard Region 3 Command donated 40 gift packages along with essential supplies for fishermen. Hung Vuong Hospital also distributed 300 gift packages to needy families and fishermen facing difficult circumstances.

On the same day, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command organized another legal awareness campaign in Tan Son Nhi Ward, attended by nearly 250 local officials and residents. The event included the distribution of 500 informational leaflets on combating IUU fishing and drug prevention.
