Implementing the “Paving the way to school for children - Adopted children of border posts” program, since 2015, the Ca Mau provincial Border Guard Command has supported nearly 400 needy students.

During the 2023-2024 academic year, the unit continues to assist 38 impoverished students, VND 500,000 per month per student. On the occasion of the start of the new academic year, border units, in coordination with local authorities, disseminated information about the implementation of social welfare policies, so as to help needy students. Accordingly, they handed over 35 bicycles, more than 10,000 notebooks and school tools, 350kg of rice, 200 national flag - themed T-shirts, and 12 scholarships (worth VND 500,000 each), worth totally VND 330 million.

One of the example is year-ten student Tran Nha Yen from Rach Goc townlet, Ngoc Hien district. Studying at Bong Van Dia High School, Yen is a poor student and an orphan in Ca Mau province receiving support for years.

The border troops encourage ninth-grader Vo Thi Ngoc Huyen.

Another typical example is ninth-grader Vo Thi Ngoc Huyen studying at Bong Van Dia Secondary School. She has been adopted by Rach Goc Border Post, as part of the “Paving the way to school for children - Adopted children of border posts” program. Huyen’s mother died when she was young, and her father was in bad health conditions. She lives with her aunt Vo Thi Truc.

Truc held that despite difficult living conditions, she has still tried her best to raise Huyen. “Thanks to the care of the border troops, Huyen can continue her study,” she added.

Huyen always gained good academic records and she is dreaming of becoming a border troop.

Lam Sy Em, Deputy Secretary of the Rach Goc townlet People’s Committee, shared that the township is home to a number of impoverished children. However, thanks to their kindness, local border guards have helped many of them via practical deeds, showing solidarity and commitment between border guards and local residents. Yen and Huyen are good examples.
