This statement was made at a ceremony, held by the Ministry of National Defense (MND), to launch the journey on November 6 at Tan Trao Special National Historical Relic Site in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province.
Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army and Head of the Steering Committee of the journey, chaired the event.
This is part of a series of activities in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Whole People's Defense Festive Day and the 75th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA).
Over the past time, the military has closely coordinated with agencies at all levels and localities in the socio-economic development cause. Since the beginning of the year, military units have actively taken part in poverty reduction movements to support over 14,000 households in 368 communes of 95 districts nationwide.
In addition, the MND has raised funds to build and repair 2,080 houses for the poor and soldiers in difficult circumstances, supported nearly 3,000 students in need, held programs to provide free health checkups and medicines, and helped local people overcome disaster consequences.
Following these activities, the journey is expected to be launched throughout the entire military and implemented in 63 provinces, with an estimated expense of VND 71 billion.

Addressing the event, General Phuong acknowledged and hailed the close coordination of military units with other functional agencies and local authorities in preparing for the journey.
He also requested military units to continue embracing and disseminating the journey to all troops to actively conduct the “Military joins hands for the poor” journey, contributing to enhancing the military-civilian ties.
During the launching ceremony, the organizing panel presented two gifts to two national contributors, and 50 gifts worth VND 1 million each to 50 poor households in Tan Trao commune.
On this occasion, Military Hospital 109 of Military Region 2 gave free health checkups and medicines to over 700 people in the area.
