In a solemn ceremony, General Phan Van Giang and his delegation paid tribute to former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu; former President Le Duc Anh; former Politburo members and former Ministers of National Defense, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Van Tien Dung, General Doan Khue, and General Phung Quang Thanh; General Chu Huy Man, former Politburo member and former Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs; and former Chiefs of the General Staff and former Deputy Ministers of National Defense, General Hoang Van Thai and General Le Trong Tan.
The delegation expressed deep gratitude for the outstanding contributions these former leaders made to the Party’s revolutionary cause, the development of the Vietnam People’s Army, the strengthening of national defense, and the protection of the Fatherland.
During visits with their families, General Phan Van Giang said that, under the Party’s leadership, the distinguished generals had made significant contributions throughout the nation’s resistance wars against foreign invaders. Their creativity in leadership and battlefield command demonstrated exceptional military acumen, ensuring the successful implementation of the Party’s strategic decisions and leading the Vietnamese people’s resistance wars to complete victory. He also encouraged their families to carry forward their proud traditions and continue contributing to the country’s development.

On the same day, General Phan Van Giang also visited and extended his best wishes to General Pham Van Tra, former Politburo member, former Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Party Committee (now the Central Military Commission or CMC), and former Minister of National Defense; General Ngo Xuan Lich, former Politburo member, former Deputy Secretary of the CMC, and former Minister of National Defense; Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and Hero of the People’s Armed Forces. He also visited the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association.
General Phan Van Giang briefed the former leaders on the military’s key achievements during the first half of 2026 and the major tasks currently being carried out under the leadership of the CMC and MND. He wished them good health and expressed his hope that they would continue providing valuable guidance to help build an increasingly capable Vietnam People’s Army that can firmly safeguard the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
During his visit to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, General Phan Van Giang thanked the association and its chapters nationwide for their close coordination with the MND and military units in organizing activities and providing valuable recommendations to the CMC and MND on military and defense policies, force development, national defense, and the protection of the Fatherland.
