Although the “Rice jar of sentiment” model of the city border guards has only been recently established, Thi Py Ot, who is in particularly difficult circumstances and no longer able to work, has received rice support from troops of the Bu Gia Map Border Post for many years. On average, the unit saves 20-25kg of rice each month to give to Thi Py Ot.
The “Living border marker” model has also been effectively implemented by border posts across the city. According to Huynh Van Hien, a local of Thanh Bien hamlet, Hung Phuoc commune, after the city’s border guard force explained the sacred significance of the national sovereignty border markers, his family signed a commitment to protect the marker located in their rubber plantation. They regularly clear weeds and clean the area around the marker and prevent anyone from damaging or encroaching upon it, making their small contribution to safeguarding the border.
Not only does Hien voluntarily help protect the border and markers, he also actively serves as a disseminator among households in the hamlet, explaining the significance, purpose and importance of joining hands in protecting the border and border markers. Many other households in the area have also actively participated in the model, contributing to maintaining stability in the area and strengthening national defense and security.
Expanding effective and successful models
Following the merger with Binh Phuoc province, Dong Nai city now shares a 258.939km-long border with three provinces of Cambodia. The lives of people in border areas, particularly ethnic minority households in border communes, remain difficult, especially during the dry season. In addition, border areas face potential security and public order risks, as criminal groups take advantage of the complex terrain to engage in smuggling.

Thanks to the joint efforts of border guards, the lives of people in the city’s border areas have improved significantly and become increasingly prosperous. Local people have placed greater trust in the border guard force and actively coordinated with the force and other functional units in managing and protecting the border.
Over the past ten years, the city border guards have developed more than 20 exemplary models, programs and projects that have provided practical benefits to local people and contributed to firmly protecting the border area.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Anh Duc, Deputy Commanding Officer of the Dong Nai city Military Command and Commanding Officer of the city Border Guard Command, emphasized that the innovative models and approaches implemented by the city’s border guard force over the past years have enabled it to advise the Viet Nam Border Guard Command, the city Party Committee and the city People's Committee on various solutions to build and consolidate the border of peace, friendship, stability, and development.
These efforts have further strengthened the national defense posture, the border defense posture, and the posture of people’s heart in border areas. With the border guard force serving as a firm fulcrum, local people can feel more secure in making a living and settling down, while joining hands to build strong border areas and contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty and security.
