Leader of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command and representatives of participating units present gifts to needy fishermen.

On the occasion, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, in collaboration with the Laborers’ Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City-based Hung Vuong Hospital, Vinh Chau town medical center, and Vinh Hai commune medical clinic, provided free health check-ups and medicines to more than 400 local people. The joint forces also presented 50 gifts to local policy beneficiary families, disadvantaged fishermen; 700 national flags, 50 portraits of Uncle Ho, and 50 first aid kits to local fishing boats.

Apart from the above-mentioned activities, the command also launched a program named “Joining hands to protect sea environment,” attracting a number of local Youth Union members, youths, Women’s Union members, troops and people. As a result, they collected and treated more than 5 tons of waste.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4, said that through the program launched in Vinh Chau town, the command wanted to raise the local people's awareness of and responsibility for managing and protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands and enforcing laws at sea.

The program, according to Col. Duong, helped strengthen the close ties between troops and people and had more significant activities to support and encourage local fishermen to reach out to the open sea, develop economy coupled with building strong all people’s defense and people’s security postures at sea, contributing to firmly safeguarding national sovereignty, upholding security, order, and safety in the sacred waters, on islands, and on the continental shelf of the nation.

Speaking highly of the humane and practical meaning of the “Coast guards accompany fishermen” program, Party Secretary of Vinh Chau town Ngo Hung said that it demonstrated the national tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” and expressed deep gratitude to fallen troops and national contributors. It also helped promote troops’ solidarity, compassion, timely sharing with fishermen in need and disadvantaged students with good study records.

These activities, as Secretary Hung said, showed the responsibility and care of the coast guard force in general and troops from Coast Guard Region 4 in particular to assist locals in rising in life and continuing to fish offshore. These were also good to disseminate the Party’s guideline and the State’s policies and laws to contribute to firmly protecting national maritime sovereignty.
