Lt. Gen. Truong Thien To directs the disaster relief in Bac Giang province.

The delegation also requested units to maintain on-duty forces and search and rescue teams around the clock, strictly observe dispatches and directions by the MND, Military Region 1 and respective province on disaster relief.

Together with keeping updated with damage, they should coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure policies for localities and households affected by the typhoon and prolonged rain and help local people stabilize their life soon. In addition, they should enhance information dissemination to raise locals’ awareness of dangerous areas and those at high risk of landslides.

Reportedly, typhoon Yagi, the third storm hitting Vietnam this year, caused heavy losses in both people and property. Due to the impact of the typhoon, the provinces where Military Region 1 is stationed have been severely affected. Continuous heavy rain has caused some areas flooded. It is estimated that some 9,000 households in Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son and Bac Ninh have been affected and isolated.

As of 9 p.m. on September 9, Typhoon Yagi claimed 23 lives, caused 31 others injured and 38 others missing in Military Region 1.

Military Region 1 has directed its affiliated agencies and units to keep a close watch on situations in localities, maintain communications, and make timely reports to the provincial and military region’s steering committees on natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue. Agencies and units were urged to conduct disaster prevention and control work according to “four on-spots” principle. The region also established working teams to directly work with localities.
