On January 16, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang chaired a meeting to hand over the duties of MR5’s chief.

According to the decision by the Prime Minister, Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, who was MR5 Commander, has been appointed as Deputy Chief of the General Staff.
At the event, Gen. Giang highly praised Gen. Ngoc’s important contribution to the local military and defense work, the military building, as well as MR5’s accomplishments, helping safeguard territorial sovereignty, maintain political security, social order and safety and create favorable conditions for local sustainable socio-economic development.

The defense chief also highlighted MR5’s armed forces’ strong development with higher synergy and combat readiness, their good performance of civil defense tasks, prompt deployment of forces and vehicles in response to non-traditional security challenges to ensure peace and happiness of people under the leadership of Gen. Ngoc and Standing Board of MR5’s Party Committee and other MR5 leaders.
Given Gen. Hai’s practical experience, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang believed that the new commander of MR5 would inherit and bring into play the local armed forces’ achievements.

Together with other leaders of MR5, Gen. Hai should direct the grasping, evaluation, and forecasting of situations, and giving recommendations to avoid being put in a negative position, particularly in border, sea, island and Central Highlands areas and continue to build a strong MR5 and lead the region to complete all assignments.
In the immediate time, the MR5 Command should concentrate on carrying out the working plan for this year closely and scientifically, preparing for the all-level Party congresses for the 2025-2030 tenure, organize a joyful, healthy, safe and economic lunar New Year for troops and local people.
Earlier, Gen. Giang and his entourage laid wreath and offered incense to President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap and other heroic martyrs at President Ho Chi Minh Memorial and Museum in MR5.
The defense chief also inspected the construction of MR5 Command, Guest House T50 of MR5.
On the occasion, Gen. Giang presented Tet gifts and extended Tet greetings to the MR5 Command and Thanh An 96 Installation and Construction Joint-stock Company under Corps 11.
