Military Region 1 assists people in Thai Nguyen in overcoming flood consequences
PANO - Due to prolonged heavy rainfall from the night of June 29 until 2p.m. on June 30, many areas in Thai Nguyen Province experienced localized flooding, causing losses of lives and property.
The Military Region 1 Command promptly directed its subordinate units to mobilize personnel and equipment to assist in emergency response and flood recovery efforts.
In Tan Lap hamlet (Linh Son ward) and Hoang Gia hamlet (Nam Hoa commune, Thai Nguyen Province), the Go Cheo stream water rose quickly due to the heavy downpour, submerging around 30 households. Two residents in Hoang Gia hamlet tragically lost their lives after being swept away by floodwater. The total property damage is still being assessed.

Faced with the complex developments of the disaster, Military Region 1 instructed the Thai Nguyen Provincial Military Command to swiftly coordinate with other units under the military region to deploy forces and equipment for the rescue mission. Hundreds of officers and soldiers, along with specialized equipment, were urgently mobilized to help evacuate residents and their belongings to safer places. The bodies of the two flood victims were recovered by rescue forces and handed over to their families for funerals.
On June 30, Commander of Military Region 1 Major General Truong Manh Dung and Political Commissar of Military Region 1 Major General La Cong Phuong led a delegation to head to the affected area in Hoang Gia hamlet, Nam Hoa commune, to inspect the situation, offer condolences, and provide support for the two bereaved families, each receiving financial assistance of VND 50 million.
Military Region 1’s leaders also instructed the Thai Nguyen Provincial Military Command to closely monitor weather developments and work closely with local authorities to pro-actively implement disaster prevention measures and prepare manpower and equipment to respond and assist people in a timely manner.
The prompt, responsible, and heartfelt activities of the officers and soldiers of Military Region 1 during this difficult time have exemplified the noble qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in the hearts of the people, helping mitigate the damage caused by the disaster and reinforce public trust in the military in disaster prevention and recovery efforts in the region.
