Iron discipline amidst vast ocean
PANO - For every officer and soldier aboard Ship CSB 4039 of Flotilla 42, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, carrying out missions at sea is not merely about patrols, inspections, and law enforcement. It is also a process of forging resilience, determination, and discipline.

Flag-raising ceremony at sea |
Amidst the open sea, “iron discipline” serves as a firm fulcrum enabling the coast guard force’s ships to successfully fulfill their assigned tasks. At sea, living conditions are challenging, weather conditions are often unpredictable, and the workload is intense. Yet at all times, officers and soldiers aboard Ship CSB 4039 strictly maintain duty schedules and combat readiness in accordance with regulations.
At dawn, when the eastern sky began to glow with bright red colors, and on the upper deck, the national flag flaps briskly in the early morning breeze, all officers and crew members begin a new day with a solemn flag-raising ceremony. This is followed by professional training, record-keeping, and drills on handling realistic scenarios such as patrol, inspection, and control of vessels showing signs of violations, along with combat readiness exercises for air and maritime situations.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Trung Kien, Chief of staff of Flotilla 42, at sea, any lapse in discipline will undermine mission effectiveness. Therefore, they must strictly maintain order and discipline to enhance the overall quality and combat strength and accomplish all assigned tasks.
Operating for extended periods in distant waters, every officer aboard Ship CSB 4039 remains fully aware of their duties and responsibilities, never wavering or becoming complacent. This unity in both awareness and action forms the collective strength of the ship, ensuring all missions are carried out in a synchronized and effective manner.

Strict discipline and adherence to regulations not only are essential for accomplishing immediate tasks, but also contribute to building a “revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern” Vietnam Coast Guard. This foundation enables the force to fulfill its mission of safeguarding national sovereignty and standing by fishermen so that they can reach out to the sea.
