One hundred contestants with the best results from commune and ward-level rounds participated in the provincial competition, representing 30 secondary schools throughout the province.

An overview of the provincial round

Contestants competed in four rounds, namely “Setting Sail,” “Riding the Waves,” “Making Landfall,” and “Placing Sovereignty Markers.”

The questions focused on basic knowledge of the Party’s viewpoints, guidelines, and policies, the State’s law on national sea and islands; international law related to maritime issues; the Vietnam Coast Guard Law; general knowledge of Vietnam’s sea and islands, oceans, and climate change; prevention of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing; school violence and its prevention; drug prevention and awareness of its harmful effects; local history and cultural traditions; and  knowledge about the forces tasked with safeguarding national maritime sovereignty.

At the end of the competition, the organizing panel awarded one first, two second, three third and four consolation prizes to outstanding contestants.

Vo Mai Thuy, an eighth grader of Song Doc Secondary School 2 in Song Doc commune, who won the first prize, expressed her honor and proud to participate in this meaningful contest. She emphasized that “through it, we gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s sea and islands. We promise to study and train hard to contribute to building an increasingly prosperous homeland.”

In his speech, Colonel Trinh Minh Hien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Flotilla 42, stressed that the contest was not only a platform for competition, but also a meaningful experiential journey that helped students better understand the position and role of Vietnam’s sea and islands, thereby fostering love for the homeland and raising awareness of young generation’s responsibility in safeguarding national maritime sovereignty.
