Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong speaks at the event.

Reports delivered at the event affirmed that the Vietnam Coast Guard Command effectively carried out the project under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense and with the support from relevant ministries and agencies. Particularly, the force successfully safeguarded national sovereignty over national seas and islands, effectively enforced laws at sea, and actively conducted search and rescue missions.  In addition, the command carried out external defense cooperation activities that further increased Vietnam’s prestige and stature in the international arena.

In the coming time, the force will restructure its personnel organization to meet the new task requirements in the new context while renewing training and education methods to raise troops’ ability to carry out missions and conquer modern equipment. Coast guard units will foster cooperation with the Navy, the Border Guard, the Air Defense-Air Force, Fishery Surveillance, military regions located in coastal area, ministries, and localities to protect national sovereignty, jurisdiction rights, national interests, and marine economic development activities.

They will also promote information dissemination to raise fishermen’s awareness of fishing regulations, contributing to preventing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing while mobilizing forces and vehicles for search and rescue missions.

Having praised the force’s achievements over the past time, General Cuong asked the Coast Guard’s Party Committee and Command to complete the remaining parts of the project with a focus on reorganizing its personnel organization, ensuring weapons and equipment, and building infrastructure.

Cuong also asked coast guard troops to continue studying the Party’s guidelines on the protection of sovereignty, jurisdiction rights, political security, and order at sea and promote political and ideological education to raise troops’ political stance and competence.

He urged the force to cooperate with agencies and units to grasp situational developments, so as to make timely recommendations for the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to issue sound guidelines and policies to deal with incidents at sea to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for economic development.
