At the meeting with South Sudan's Defense Minister Koul Mangyang, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Politics, who led the Vietnamese delegation, reported that Vietnam has sent its troops to the UNMISS, including its level-two field hospitals. In the coming time, Vietnam will send its engineer company to the UNMISS, contributing to building infrastructure and fixing bridges and roads in South Sudan.

He hoped that the Ministry of Defense and relevant agencies of South Sudan would provide favorable conditions for the L2FH Rotation 2 of Vietnam to soon settle down and continue duties being undertaking by L2FH Rotation 1 in Bentiu. He also asked the South Sudan minister to support other Vietnamese peacekeeping forces while they are on duties in the country.
The host expressed his delight at receiving the Vietnamese mission and thanked Vietnam for sending its peacekeepers to South Sudan. He also informed the guests of the challenges and difficulties that the country is facing and hopes to learn from Vietnam’s experiences in settling war consequences and developing the economy and society.

At the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Awut Dang Acuil, General Phuong held that the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Sudan is an important milestone. He also confirmed that the Government and military of Vietnam always wants to aid the Government and people of South Sudan in the implementation of the country’s peace process. He suggested the two sides implement more programs and exchange experiences in the cause of national construction and development in the coming time.
Talking with leaders of ministries and sectors of South Sudan, General Phuong stressed that the policy of Vietnam to send its peacekeepers on UN missions has proved the country’s political commitment and responsibilities towards the international community. The Vietnamese general reaffirmed the desire to see the early restoration of peace in South Sudan and hoped that Vietnam can share experiences in settling war consequences with the African country, especially in developing agricultural and healthcare systems.

Earlier, General Phuong told David Shearer, Special Representative of the Secretary General for the UNMISS, that Vietnam would send its engineer company to South Sudan. He hoped the UN and UNMISS provide favorable conditions for the Vietnamese peacekeepers while they are working in South Sudan.
Leaders of the UNMISS highly appreciated the performance of Vietnamese peacekeepers and suggested that Vietnam send more officers to the UNMISS and contribute more to UN peacekeeping operations.
During the business trip, the Vietnamese military mission also visited the engineer company of Thailand stationed in the capital city of Juba.
