Vietnamese blue berets asked to further brighten image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers
PANO - The Ministry of National Defense (MND) held a ceremony on October 7 in Hanoi to hand over the State President’s decisions to three officers who will take part in U.N. peacekeeping operations at the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien chaired the event.
The three officers are Lieutenant Colonels Vu Thi Kim Oanh and Nguyen Van Thu, who will respectively serve as a quartermaster and a senior staff officer for training at UNISFA. Meanwhile, Captain Chu Tuan Linh will act as a military observer at UNMISS.

All the three dispatched officers overcame fully-qualified training, meeting the U.N. and MND’s requirements. Among them, Col. Thu previously worked as a staff officer for logistics at UNISFA in 2022.
In his remarks, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien required the three officers to strictly observe the military discipline of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), the U.N.’s regulations, and the laws of the host countries, and regulations on ensuring security and safety for personnel, weapons, and equipment. They should promote traditions of the VPA and Vietnamese blue berets; show their bravery and expertise to spread the image of Vietnam and its people, and the VPA in the international arena; closely maintain solidarity and actively cooperate with colleagues; regularly share experience, exchange information, support each other to successfully complete all assigned tasks.

Regarding the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the deputy defense minister required the unit to closely collaborate with relevant agencies and units to continue to organize training activities, enhance personnel selection and prepare replacement forces for the following years, while focusing on raising officers’ foreign language skills and researching the possibility of deploying personnel to apply for work at the U.N. headquarters and missions.

Meanwhile, Gen. Chien asked the agencies and units to pay attention to selecting female officers to meet the gender balance strategy of the U.N. Security Council as well as Vietnam's commitment to increasing the proportion of servicewomen participating in U.N. peacekeeping duties in the time to come.
