Vietnamese and Indonesian coast guards ensure maritime security and safety
PANO – The coast guard forces of Vietnam and Indonesia, on December 28, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maritime security and safety cooperation during a teleconference, co-chaired by Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard Major General Le Quang Dao and Chief of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency Vice Admiral Aan Kurnia.
With the aim of promoting bilateral cooperation in maritime security and safety in the region on the basis of equality and win-win interests, the MoU marks the beginning of a close and comprehensive cooperation between the two sides since the signing of the Letter of Intent on enhancing bilateral cooperation in August 2017.

Addressing the event, General Dao affirmed the importance of the cooperation between the two coast guard forces, adding that the virtual conference contributed to showing the determination, great efforts, as well as effective cooperation between the two sides.
He underscored that the MoU also serves as a tool and mechanism for the two sides to enhance mutual understanding, and practical and effective cooperation to settle cases arising at sea, paving the way for deeper and more comprehensive bilateral cooperation, contributing to ensuring the region’s waters of peace, stability, solidarity, cooperation, and development.

For his part, Vice Admiral Aan Kurnia emphasized that the Vietnam Coast Guard is an important partner in Southeast Asia in ensuring maritime security and safety in the region. He believed that on the basis of the MoU, the two coast guard forces would deepen and expand the bilateral friendship and cooperation.
