This event aimed to strengthen coordination between the two sides in combating crime and law violations at sea.

The Vietnamese ships included CSB 2008, CSB 4001, and speedboat 719 from Flotilla 11 of the Coast Guard Region 1 Command, while the Chinese sides sent patrol vessels Haijian 22603, 22512, and speedboat 22031 from Fangchenggang Company.

The joint patrol spanned a distance of 120 nautical miles, from Point 1 to Point 9 along the delimitation line in the Gulf of Tonkin. This area is known for its bustling import-export activities and goods exchanges between the two nations, and is also a hotspot for illegal activities, such as smuggling, commercial fraud, illegal border crossings, and unauthorized maritime entry.

During the patrol, the Vietnamese coast guard force actively disseminated information to dozens of trawlers operating in the bordering waters, encouraging them to strictly observe regulations on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to help lift the European Commission's "yellow card" warning on Vietnam and promote sustainable development of the country’s fisheries sector.

Earlier on August 28, the Vietnamese coast guard released juvenile groupers into the waters to support marine resources development in the region.

Since 2024, joint patrols in the bordering waters have been conducted quarterly by the two nations’ coast guards to regularly maintain security and order and ensure legal compliance by their citizens.

This activity has contributed to preserving and developing the traditional neighboring relationship between the two countries and proved that it is a highlight in bilateral maritime law enforcement cooperation.
