Vietnam, UK’s cooperation in UN peacekeeping to further develop
PANO - Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh hosted a reception for the newly-appointed UK ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward on August 17 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

General Vinh wished the ambassador a successful term of office in Vietnam.
He expressed his delight at the fine development in the bilateral defense ties since the two countries established a strategic partnership. The two sides have also established a mechanism on defense policy dialogue at defense-ministerial level and realized development opportunities in cooperation between army corps.
General Vinh also laid stress on the promoted cooperation in personnel training, defense industry and especially UN peacekeeping.
The host believed that in his new post, Ambassador Gareth Ward would contribute to reinforcing the two militaries’ cooperation.
“Vietnam wishes to send its officers to English language courses in the UK and Vietnam is ready to train Vietnamese language for officers of the British army in the country,” said General Vinh.
On the occasion, General Vinh thanked the UK for its support for Vietnam in UN peacekeeping activities and hoped to enhance ties with the country in military engineering. He hoped that cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations will be a bright point in the bilateral defense ties and in the two countries’ strategic partnership.
For his part, Ambassador Gareth Ward pledged to do his utmost to strengthen the bilateral defense ties. He believed that the cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations will reap good outcomes. He also stressed that the UK is willing to boost cooperation with Vietnam in the field and applauds bilateral cooperation in military engineering.
