Vietnam, Russia enhance cooperation on UN peacekeeping operations
PANO – On June 14, Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Deputy-Minister of National Defense, hosted a reception for a delegation of the Ministry of Defense from the Russian Federation, led by Lieutenant General Sergey Vasilievich, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Force, during their visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, General Truong affirmed that over the past time the bilateral defense ties have seen remarkable developments, especially in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations. Notably, the two defense ministries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on peacekeeping operations in November 2017, a step towards further bilateral defense cooperation in the future.
The host also suggested that both sides should accelerate defense delegation exchange at all levels, information and experience sharing on UN peacekeeping operations by various means such as joint training exercises, workshops, and so on.
For his part, General Sergey Vasilievich thanked the host for a warm reception and affirmed that the Russian Defense Ministry would support the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations to deploy forces to UN peacekeeping missions in the time to come. The guest reiterated that the Russian side is willing to cooperate with the Vietnamese counterpart in this field, contributing to peace in the region and the world.
