An overview of the meeting

Both sides have actively coordinated efforts to combat crime and law violations in border areas, including smuggling, illegal cross-border goods trafficking, drug and human trafficking, illegal arms trade, and illegal immigration. Joint law enforcement activities along the border, including coordination in patrols, law dissemination, and distribution of leaflets, have been regularly conducted.

These activities have contributed to maintaining security, social order, and safety in border areas and at border gates while also raising awareness among people of both sides living along the borderline. Both sides have coordinated to facilitate customs clearance efficiency, resolving congestion of vehicles and goods, and ensuring the effective operation of land border gates between the two countries.

Following the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides on December 4, 2023, various exchange activities have been carried out. These activities including the “Twinning Models between Border Stations and Border Posts,” “Joining Hands to Build Peaceful Border Areas,” “Ambassador of Friendship,” and so on, further strengthen solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between the two forces and enhancing mutual understanding between the authorities and people on both sides of the borderline.

In his speech at the meeting, Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai proposed that the two sides continue to effectively implement the cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. This agreement has established a three-tiered coordination mechanism for law enforcement in border gates' areas and land border management, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 4, 2023, in Beijing, China.

The two sides will continue to exchange information on the fight against illegal activities, particularly cross-border crime, high-tech crime, terrorism, and drug-related crime. The Vietnam Border Guard Commander suggested that both sides establish a direct hotline between their respective crime prevention organs.

For his part, Deputy Director Li Junjie expressed strong agreement with Vietnam's proposals and expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meeting would further advance the cooperation between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the National Immigration Administration of China. He also emphasized that this cooperation would deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China, fostering a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and sustainably developing border between the two countries.
