Vietnam attaches importance to bilateral defense ties with New Zealand
PANO - Deputy-Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches much importance to developing defense ties with New Zealand.
General Vinh made that statement at a reception for New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Wendy Matthews on April 23 at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
General Vinh highly valued the development of the bilateral ties between the two countries, saying that it has developed in a highly reliable manner and on the basis of their comprehensive partnership, heading for advancing to a strategic partnership.
The Vietnamese general suggested promoting the bilateral defense cooperation in a more practical manner, with a focus on certain fields, such as education-training, defense industry and more.
He underscored that Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense’s related agencies and units are willing to confer with New Zealand to work out measures to expand the bilateral defense ties.
For her part, Ambassador Wendy Matthews emphasized that defense cooperation is one of the important foundations of the New Zealand-Vietnam relationship.
She wished to receive more cooperation and support from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in reinforcing the ties and confirmed that at her post, she would do her utmost to contribute to developing intensively the two countries’ defense cooperation.
