The delegation was joined by Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung.
On this occasion, representatives from UNISFA’s functional organs briefed delegates on the situation, structure, organization, and major tasks of the mission. UNISFA Acting Commander Brigade General Abu Syed Mohammod Bakir and the UNISFA’s affiliated units hailed the competence of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force. Despite harsh conditions and difficulties, the Engineering Company Rotation 1 and UNISFA Working Group have accomplished many tough tasks assigned by the mission, including building a factory; ensuring smooth traffic during the rainy season around the mission and in Abyei; and repairing and upgrading the field airport and barracks. In addition, the company is also implementing humanitarian activities as regulated by the mission.

Addressing the working session, General Chien affirmed that Vietnam’s participation in the U.N. peacekeeping mission shows the political commitment of the country towards the international community, contributing to addressing security issues and building a peaceful environment for regional and world development. Besides, Vietnam is also deploying public security forces to U.N. peacekeeping missions, including one at U.N. headquarters and three in the South Sudan mission.
So far, the Vietnamese peacekeeping force has excellently completed all tasks assigned by the UNISFA mission, General Chien underscored, while sending his sincere thanks and hailing the support of the mission. In the coming time, the Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister requested the mission to regularly update the situation in Abyei and relevant areas, support Vietnamese engineers whenever needed, especially in case of tensions, conflicts over security and politics when the unit is independently stationed far from the mission headquarters, and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese engineering force to fulfill assigned tasks.

He also invited the U.N. and UNISFA mission to visit Vietnam to inspect, evaluate, and give advice before the deployment of the Vietnamese Engineering Company Rotation 2 and other forces to the UNISFA mission.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung valued the information about the UNISFA mission as well as the task performance of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in the mission, which helped Vietnam to effectively send troops to the mission in the coming time.
* In the framework of the visit to UNISFA, the Vietnamese delegation also visited and inspected the Engineering Company Rotation 1 tasked with constructing the road from Rumajak to Dukara 1, and roads to schools, as well as a well for Abyei High School. Abyei Mayor Apach Deng Biong received the delegation and thanked the Vietnamese defense leaders for taking care of the locals. He also noted that the Vietnamese blue berets are carrying out meaningful constructions in the area.

For his part, General Chien asked the Abyei’s authorities and people to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese peacekeeping force, especially the engineering force, to best fulfill their assigned tasks as well as many other humanitarian activities. He also inquired after and requested the Engineering Company Rotation 1 to overcome difficulties to ensure the quality of the constructions, contributing to raising people’s awareness and promoting local socio-economic development while affirming the competence of the Vietnamese engineering troops.
* Visiting a support unit of Nepal and an Indian Infantry Battalion, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister expressed his hope that the participating countries would further promote cooperation so that all peacekeeping forces in the mission will fulfill all assigned tasks.
