UNISFA Acting Commander Brigade General Abu Syed Mohammod Bakir welcomed the Vietnamese delegation. At the meeting with General Bakir, General Chien underscored the Vietnam’s deployment of its first military engineering company to the U.N. peacekeeping mission which affirms Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of relations. It also demonstrates that Vietnam wants to be a friend and reliable partner in international community.
On this occasion, the delegation also visited the barracks of the engineering company and worked with Vietnamese peacekeeping force in UNISFA.

At the working session, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) cum Head of the Engineering Company Rotation 1 Senior Colonel Mac Duc Trong noted that despite difficulties in UNISFA, the troops always try their best to fulfill their assigned missions, including completing the construction of the factory in the Mission's headquarters; repairing roads, rescuing vehicles to ensure smooth traffic during the rainy season, repair barracks for units of the Mission, among others.
Implementing humanitarian missions, UNISFA has tasked the Engineering Company Rotation 1 with bracing for flood for the locals in Abyei town and Dari market; making new desks and chairs for local students; providing free health check-ups for the Pakistan Infantry Unit and presenting gifts to schools in Abyei.

In addition, the engineering unit has also actively introduced the images of the land and people of Vietnam as well as Uncle Ho's soldiers and Vietnamese peacekeepers to international community via practical activities, deserving the pioneering force of the Vietnam People’s Army in the area.
Meanwhile, according to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, Head of the UNISFA Working Group, the unit has overcome all difficulties in the area to excellently fulfill their assigned missions.

Concluding the meeting, on behalf of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and the delegation, General Chien acknowledged and applauded the peacekeeping force’s achievements in UNISFA.
He hoped that the Vietnamese blue berets would continue to promote the strong will and competence in performing peacekeeping missions assigned by the Party, State, military and people.
