More Vietnamese peacekeepers to depart for Central African Republic
PANO - On December 16 in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to present President’s decisions to send four military officers to the U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic.
Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), chaired the ceremony.

Addressing the event, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan requested the four military oficers to strictly observe the Party’s viewpoints and guidelines on external affairs while preserving and promoting the traditions of Vietnamese peace keepers and spreading the beautiful image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in implementing their assigned tasks in the areas. In addition, they should also overcome difficulties to accomplish all assigned missions with absolute safety.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and functional units were also tasked with ensuring policy for military and its rear, especially ahead of traditional Tet holiday. Besides, other units should train their troops, especially in foreign language, so as to be ready to take part in U.N. missions.

The four military officers were Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Thieu, Combat Staff Officer cum Commander Vietnam's U.N. peacekeeping force in the Central African Republic; Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hien, staff officer in charge of intelligence analysis; Major Vu Duc Nhien, officer in charge of intelligence analysis; and Senior Lieutenant Pham Tien Long, equipment staff officer. They were carefully selected from units in the whole military to participate in U.N. peacekeeping operations.
