MNEK-4 officially kicked off
PANO - The fourth Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK-4) was officially kicked off in Makassar city, South Sulawesi province, Indonesia on June 5 with the attendance of representatives of navies of 36 countries worldwide.
After the opening ceremony, an international fleet review, the first official activity within MNEK-4, took place with the participation of 38 ships from navies of the host Indonesia and other countries.
Ship 20 of Brigade 172 under Naval Region 3 and the Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Commander of Naval Region 3 Senior Captain Nguyen Quoc Quang, participated in the fleet review.
Senior Captain Nguyen Quoc Quang joined the fleet review with representatives of participating navies on corvette KRI Bung Karno.
MNEK, an initiative of Indonesia, is biannually held by the country in different places, starting from 2014. In 2018 and 2020, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The KRI Bung Karno, numbered 369, is a corvette and presidential yacht of the Indonesian Navy. This guided-missile corvette has the capability to carry a helicopter and serves the President’s review of a fleet’s performance. |

The KRI Bung Karno was named after the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno. The corvette has a displacement of 650 tons, a length of 73m, and a beam of 12m. It can reach a maximum speed of 24 nautical miles/hour (44 km/h) and equipped with an air-to-air missile and an AS565 Panther helicopter. |
