Vietnam's Ship 20 arrives in Langkawi for LIMA 2023
PANO - On the afternoon of May 21, after a 1,800-nautical-mile journey from the city of Da Nang, Ship 20 of Brigade 172, Naval Region 3, along with a delegation from the Vietnam People's Navy, safely arrived in Langkawi, Malaysia.
They were ready to participate in activities as part of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2023.
From May 23 to 28, the Vietnamese ship, and the delegation led by Senior Captain Nguyen Quoc Quang, Deputy Commander of Naval Region 3, will take part in various activities during LIMA 2023. These activities include displaying naval vessels, showcasing career opportunities in the Royal Malaysian Navy, ship parades, and naval exercises.
Ship 20 is a Pohang-class anti-submarine corvette, acquired by the Vietnam People's Navy from the Republic of Korea Navy in October 2018. Following its acquisition, Ship 20 underwent equipment modernization to enhance its technical capabilities and weapon systems.
This marks the third time that the Vietnam People's Navy has sent a ship to participate in LIMA. In 2017 and 2019, ships 011 - Dinh Tien Hoang and 012 - Ly Thai To, respectively, both from Brigade 162, Naval Region 4, participated in the event.
Below are some images of the initial activities conducted by the Vietnamese naval officers in Langkawi.
