The event witnessed the participation of Deputy Defense Minister Sr. Lt. Gen. Vu Hai San, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang, MMU’s Director Lt. Gen. Do Quyet, MMU’s Political Commissar Maj. Gen. Nguyen Viet Luong, and representatives of the defense ministry’s functional agencies, among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sr. Lt. Gen. Vu Hai San stressed that the defense cooperation between the Vietnam People’s Army and the Lao People’s Army has increasingly developed to become a key pillar in the two countries’ traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership. The two defense ministries have actively and effectively implemented the cooperation contents in order to reinforce and strengthen mutual trust, comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, contributing to maintaining peace, socio-political stability for the development of each country and the Vietnam – Laos special solidarity, he added.

The deputy defense minister went on to stress that the university has implemented training courses for numerous Lao officers to help Lao friends improve healthcare service for troops and people. He hoped that the school will continue to create favorable conditions for Lao officers, update training programs, and renew contents and methods to suit Lao trainees, especially amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

MMU’s Director Lt. Gen. Do Quyet held that over the past 65 years, the university has has been performing well the task of training medical personnel for the Laos People’s Army, contributing to the growth of the Lao People’s Army in safeguarding the country and improving the close relations between the two parties, two states, and two militaries.

An art performance at the event

Up to now, the MMU has trained over 600 medical personnel of the Lao People’s Army. Currently, 60 Lao trainees are studying at the MMU. In addition, the university has organized refresher courses for Lao military medical personnel while sending officers to the Military Medical University and Military Hospital 103 of the Lao People’s Army to directly train Lao officers.

At the event, on behalf of the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang presented the second-class Labor Orders to the MMU, its Military Hospital 103 and Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital, and two individuals Lt. Gen. Do Quyet and Maj. Gen. Nguyen Viet Luong.

On the occasion, the Vietnam MMU and its Lao counterpart co-held the second inter-school scientific conference via virtual format. The conference provides a great opportunity for both sides’ medical personnel to exchange experience and expertise in scientific research, contributing to training young scientists for better diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
