MR2 boosts search for martyrs’ remains in Laos
PANO – In 1994, Military Region 2 (MR2) established a special team in charge of searching and repatriating remains of fallen soldiers who sacrificed in six provinces in Northern Laos during their international service.
Until now, the team verified over 4,280 cases and searched and brought home more than 1,790 sets of remains. Particularly in the dry season of 2021-2022, they repatriated eight martyrs’ remains in the Lao provinces of Luang Prabang and Oudomxay.
According to MR2, its team’s records came from sound direction by the special working group of the two governments as well as considerable assistance by authorities and people in six northern Lao provinces.
In the coming time, the two sides plan to further carry out contents of the protocol in the 2020-2024 period signed by the Vietnamese and Lao Defense Ministries, while fostering the search for Vietnamese martyrs’ remains in Laos.
