Legend of Truong Bon recurs through a special program
PANO - A special artistic program recapturing the legendary Truong Bon victory took place on the evening of October 29 at Truong Bon National Historical Relic Site in Nghe An province in the attendance of Party General-Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The program, co-organized by the Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper and the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee, aimed to commemorate and express gratitude to volunteer youths in the anti-American resistance war for national salvation for their great devotion and sacrifice on the legendary Truong Bon road, the artery to transfer ammunition and food to support the southern battle fields.
Thuan Huu, Editor-in-Chief of the Nhan Dan Newspaper, delivering a speech at the event
In his opening speech, member of the Party Central Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the Nhan Dan Newspaper Thuan Huu said that 49 years ago, in the fierce time of the resistance war against the American imperialists, the name of Truong Bon entered the national history and became a milestone in the protracted and hard-fought struggle of the Vietnamese people against foreign invaders in the 20th century.
Huu went on that with its strategic importance as a life-line road where foodstuff and weapons were transported from the rear in the North to the front in the South, Truong Bon was fiercely bombarded by the American enemies. Just between 1964 and 1968, 18,936 bombs of different sizes and types and thousands of missiles were fired at this road. In spite of that danger, thousands of troops, traffic workers, volunteer youths and people undauntedly combated the enemy and ensured the smooth transport of goods to the front. Some 1,240 people sacrificed their lives on this sacred highway.
An art performance at the event
As part of the program, the organizing panel presented saving-books to the families of 13 fallen volunteer youths of Truong Bon and to historical witness Tran Thi Thong and two former deputy-commanders of the heroic Volunteer Youth Company 317. The panel also gave VND 100 million to the management board of Truong Bon National Historical Relic Site and the Nghe An Study Promotion Fund, contributing to honoring this important element of revolutionary history and to taking care of the future generation.
Before the program started, a delegation led by Party General-Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong offered incense and flowers at the mass grave of fallen volunteer youths which lies inside Truong Bon Historical Relic Site.
