Nghe An province has solemnly celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Truong Bon triumph and received the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces granted by the Party and the State to the group of 14 young volunteers of Company 317 for its special achievements in the anti-US resistance war.
The ceremony, organised at the historical site Truong Bon in My Son commune, Do Luong district, had participation of many Party leaders.
In the anti-US resistance war, Truong Bon became a ‘bomb bag’. Over 200 Vietnamese soldiers, militiamen and young volunteers laid down their lives or were wounded there. Over 100 days and nights of fighting at the ‘fire co-ordinate’, faced with thousands of the enemy bombing raids, Company 317 stayed firm showing their iron will and patriotic spirit.
The moment of 6.10 am on October 31, 1968 went down in the Vietnamese history as a pathetic song on the feats of arms and glorious deaths of eleven volunteer girl volunteers and two young men. They laid down their lives only a few hours before the US temporarily stopped its bombings against North Vietnam.
