Military moves to enhance DNA testing capacity to identify martyrs’ remains

To fulfill its assigned tasks, the Department of Military Medicine has worked with relevant agencies and units to draft the implementation plan for the 2026-2030 period, along with a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate its implementation.

The plan focuses on eight key task groups, namely perfecting mechanisms and procedures; strengthening organizational structures and staffing; training and developing human resources; upgrading infrastructure; receiving equipment, transferring and mastering technology; conducting DNA testing, ensuring quality and promoting scientific research; developing a DNA database of martyrs’ remains and information technology infrastructure; and conducting inspection and supervision while ensuring human resources.

At the meeting, participants clarified difficulties and obstacles and proposed solutions and directions for the coming period based on the task groups outlined in the draft plan.

Addressing the event, Maj. Gen. Huynh Tan Hung asked the Department of Military Medicine to continue coordinating with relevant agencies to quickly finalize the implementation plan. He called for specific timelines and responsibilities to be assigned to individual officers and staff members based on the key task groups.

He also asked the department to finalize the plan in preparation for receiving, installing, and operating the next-generation sequencing (NGS) DNA testing system sponsored by Vingroup.
