Bringing the fishermen ashore |
Earlier on September 18, a cargo ship coded NB-8133, captained by Le Quang Hop born in 1978 from Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province with two other crew-members on board, was sinking while operating at sea, some three nautical miles southeast of Cat Ba Island. The ship was on its way from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh. The two crew-members are Pham Van Giang (born in 1963) and Tran Van Bao (born in 2004) from Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh.
After the accident, captain Hop immediately sent a mayday signal for help.
Upon receiving the news at 4:00 on the same day, Cat Ba Border Station promptly sent personnel and vehicles to the scene.
At 5:30, the troops approached the troubled ship and promptly rescued captain Le Quang Hop and crew-member Pham Van Giang who were on drift near the ship. The two troubled men were provided with healthcare.
At present, Cat Ba Border Station is cooperating with nearby fishing boats and on-duty ships to search for the missing crew-member Tran Van Bao. Meanwhile, divers were sent inside the sunk ship to lock oil valves, preventing oil from leaking from the ship.
