Immediately upon arriving in the affected areas, particularly those cut off by floodwaters, they coordinated with local authorities and other forces to sort, pack, and transport essential items, including instant noodles, bread, emergency rations, and drinking water.
Flood conditions remain critical in Noong Thang, Chit, Nam Sang, and several other villages in Muong Than commune. Rising water levels and fast-moving currents have made access to isolated communities extremely challenging.
Hundreds of officers and soldiers from Lai Chau’s Armed Forces were mobilized overnight to reach the isolated areas. They adopted multiple methods to transfer supplies to local authorities before distributing them to households in the hardest-hit locations, ensuring essential goods reached affected residents.
In addition to relief efforts, military personnel worked with local authorities to encourage residents in unsafe areas, especially those whose houses had been damaged or were at risk of collapse, to evacuate to safer locations. They also provided first aid for the injured, arranged timely medical evacuation, and continued searching for missing people.
As of the latest update, flooding in Lai Chau province has claimed four lives, including three in Muong Than commune and one in Than Uyen commune. Four people remain missing, all from Chit village in Muong Than commune, while eight others have been injured, including seven in Muong Than commune and one in Pa U commune. Numerous houses have been swept away, completely destroyed, or left at risk of collapse. Military medical teams have provided emergency treatment for residents with minor injuries.
On the morning of July 18, the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command continued deploying additional officers and soldiers to flood-hit areas to support ongoing search and rescue operations and help local communities recover from the disaster.
