The event was held to send lunar New Year (Tet) atmosphere and sentiment of people at home to Vietnamese peacekeepers undertaking missions in the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Abyei and the U.N. headquarters.
At the event, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, extended Tet wishes to all Vietnamese peacekeeping officers and soldiers and praised achievements and outcomes of the force over the past year.

Also, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, together with Head of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations Major General Hoang Kim Phung, and Deputy Head of the Ministry of Public Security’s Permanent Office for U.N. Peacekeeping Operations Major General Nguyen Duc Bang, talked to Vietnamese peacekeepers via video conferencing system.

At the event, Senior Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Head of the Engineering Company Rotation 1, and Commanding Officer of Vietnam’s peacekeeping force at the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), expressed his emotion at receiving the care and encouragement of the defense leaders, functional agencies, and families on the occasion of the upcoming Tet. He said it is a meaningful program, which helps promote Vietnamese peacekeepers’ motivation and determination to fulfill their assigned missions.

Lieutenant Colonel Vu Minh Duong, Director of the Level-two Field Hospital (L2FH) Rotation 4, shared that the Tet festival in the hospital is happier after welcoming all Vietnamese peacekeepers in South Sudan, especially the public security officers, who were deployed to the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for the first time.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Thieu, Head of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in the Central African Republic, said that he and his colleagues were preparing a cozy and happy Tet with adequate Tet flavors. Like the other units of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force, the unit in Central African Republic also invited their foreign counterparts to make chung cakes and join the traditional Tet festival, contributing to introducing Vietnam’s cultural identities to international friends.

At the program, delegates were touched when watching short clips about relatives and families of Vietnamese peacekeepers as well as their talks via the teleconference.
The program only lasted for one hour but left much emotion on participants. It also showcased a cozy, happy and meaningful Tet of Vietnamese peacekeepers, who are on U.N. peacekeeping duties.
