Serious patients airlifted ashore by helicopter
PANO – An EC225 helicopter numbered 8619 of Military Corps 18 of the Ministry of National Defense landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on February 23, carrying two severe patients from Truong Sa and Sinh Ton islands of Truong Sa island district of Khanh Hoa province to shore safely.
Previously, at 7:52 p.m. of February 22, the helicopter captained by Major Dinh Hoang Long with an aeromedical evacuation team on board, took off from Tan San Nhat Airport to undertake a medievac flight to Truong Sa island district.

Reportedly, patient Nguyen Kim Phi was diagnosed with food poisoning on Truong Sa Island Medical Station while the patient Nguyen Cham suffered from decompression due to deep diving and was treated at Sinh Ton Island Medical Station. The patients received first aid on the islands; however, their conditions got worse. Therefore, they were airlifted ashore for further treatment at Military Hospital 175.
At the hospital, Phi was assigned to have a computed tomography (CT) scan for the assessment of an abdominal injury while Cham had magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CT scans for testing any injury in his brain, spine or abdomen.
