“Welcoming the delegation to extend New Year greetings, we truly feel as if we have already seen spring. We sincerely appreciate the sentiment and support from people nationwide and businesses who always turn their hearts toward soldiers and forces performing duties in the difficult and harsh conditions of the Southwestern region of the Fatherland,” Non-commissioned Captain Quach Ra Sin, member of Radar Station 595, Regiment 551, Naval Region 5, said emotionally.

On the island, the working delegation, led by Rear Admiral Ngo Van Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Naval Region 5, attended an early-year flag-raising ceremony, during which, they, together with troops, proudly sang the national anthem amidst the sound of waves. Addressing the ceremony, Rear Admiral Ngo Van Thanh commended on-duty forces on Hon Khoai Island, and hoped that they would overcome difficulties, strengthen solidarity, and successfully fulfill all assignments, particularly during the upcoming Tet.
In a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere, the delegation presented many meaningful gifts to the on-duty forces.

In 2025, Hon Khoai received strong attention and investment from the State, focusing on such key projects as the Ca Mau - Dat Mui Expressway, the transport route connecting Ca Mau Cape to Hon Khoai Island, and the Hon Khoai dual-use general port. Once completed and put into operation, these projects will ensure seamless connectivity of the East of the North-South Expressway to Dat Mui, linking the mainland with Hon Khoai Island to realize the development orientation of Hon Khoai into the “Southernmost continent” of the country in the coming years, contributing to implementing important national and Ca Mau provincial strategic orientations.

Hon Khoai Island is one of the five small islands of the Hon Khoai island group. Located Southeast of Ca Mau Cape, in Dat Mui commune, Ca Mau province, Hon Khoai Island has an area of approximately 4 sq.km, about 14 km from the mainland, and a highest elevation of around 318 meters above sea level.

Hon Khoai Island holds an important position in national defense and security. It is likened to a frontline outpost guarding the airspace, sea, and land strip of the Southwestern region of the nation. The island is not only known for its pristine and diverse natural scenery but also famous for the Hon Khoai Uprising, led by heroic martyr, teacher Phan Ngoc Hien.
