At the ceremony, the traditional liaison committee of the Border Guards in Ho Chi Minh City received and handed over 30 bicycles, which are presents from Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh - Honorable President of the People’s Public Security Newspaper’s foundation for sponsoring students of ethnic minorities and poor students with adversity in life and keen on studying,” to children of veteran border guards in remote and mountainous areas.

The committee also granted “For comradeship” scholarships to 130 students whose parents are veterans and border guards working at border posts from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau provinces.

Addressing the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Hoai Phuong, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard highly appreciated the activities for the sake of troops’ families of the committee and of benefactors as well.

General Phuong stressed that such programs as scholarship-granting, “Joining hands for a peaceful borderline”, “For comradeship” fund-raising have not only eased difficulties facing border guards, but also made contributions to the good implementation of the work for troops’ families of the whole military and whole people.

According to the committee’s deputy head Dinh The Ty, in recent years, the liaison committee has raised over VND 2 billion for students with national- and locality-level awards and needy children whose parents are border guards working from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau provinces and who are studying in Ho Chi Minh City and its neighborhoods. Besides, the committee has built and handed over 60 “Comradeship” houses to policy beneficiaries of the border guard force.
