PANO – A new uniform of the Vietnam People’s Army is expected to be worn by all army personnel from December 22, 2009, on the occasion of the 65th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army.

Over the past years, the uniforms have become popular and beloved for people. They are also considered as one of characters and image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.

In both war and peace time, the uniforms help to honour the beauty of soldiers and create the unity and the strength of the army. The army uniform also illustrates the development of the armed forces in different period.

As scheduled, new uniforms will be worn firstly in some agencies and units from April 30.

The change of the uniform is an objective requirement which meets the demand of officers and soldiers of the whole army. The new army uniform is suitable for soldiers in fighting, training and in daily activities . New uniforms will also ensure the unity and the beauty of the army.

At present, functional agencies and departments of the National Defence Ministry have been undertaking a project to design the new uniforms.

Earlier, the Logistics General Department held an uniform design contest. Over 1,000 models made by well-known garment and textile businesses inside and outside the army were sent to the competition. Thanks to the contest, the unit selected best designs to make new uniforms.

According to the project, design, materials and colour of the new uniforms for both male and female will be improved. Uniforms, hats, shoes, badges and insignias will have better quality and aesthetic than before.

In particular, army women will have beautiful uniforms and shoes to honour the beauty of women.

At present, army businesses such as Joint Stock Company No 26, Company No 20 that take part in the project are very active in producing new uniforms.
