Close-to-reality training

At a working session with VBG key cadres on March 14 this year, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang highly praised the border guard force’s achievements in training over the past time. The defense chief emphasized that these were remarkable attainments that border guard officers and soldiers have exerted all-out efforts and showed high determination to achieve.

Regarding training missions of the border guard force, Major General Hoang Huu Chien, Second-in-Command and Chief of the Staff of the VBG said that in realizing the Central Military Commission and VBG Party Committee’s resolutions on raising training quality, the Staff has effectively given advice to the VBG’s Chain-of-Command to direct the whole border guard force to conduct basic, practical and firm training. As a result, troops have both basic and deep political, military, professional, and legal knowledge as a firm foundation for them to deal with any arising circumstances in border areas.

In fact, higher levels’ resolutions and plans have always been embraced and implemented by VBG’s affiliated agencies and units. They have well combined training with performing Party and political work and sharing experience and promoting units’ traditions. In addition, training contents have been closely attached to border management and defense and crime prevention and control.

To improve training quality, Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Thiem, Commanding Officer of the Quang Ninh provincial Border Guard Command, revealed that his command’s affiliates have seriously developed training programs, ensured contents, schedule, and personnel for the training to meet border management and defense, crime prevention and control, combat readiness and comprehensively-strong unit building missions.

With good performance of education and training work, troops’ capacity has step-by-step improved, meeting task requirement in the new situation.

Positive changes

According to Major General Tran Hai Binh, Deputy Chief of Staff of the VBG, over the past time, border guard units have focused their training on levels from basic to complex, from each individual to groups and working teams and built a motto that reads, “learning with practice, practice is the key,” and getting close to reality.

In order to improve combat readiness capability, help troops master staffed weapons and equipment, the VBG Staff has devised plans, suggested the VBG Party Committee and Chain-of-Command direct affiliates to conduct one-side, two-level command and staff exercises, integrated drills to deal with border situations, friendship exchanges between the Vietnamese border guard force and neighbors’ border protection forces, defensive-area and tactical exercises and live-fire drills, among others.

VBG Chief Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai evaluated that despite difficulties, with active, pro-active and creative spirit, the VBG Party Committee and Chain-of-Command have concentrated on directing their affiliates to complete all training requirements and targets with high results recorded in many training contents. He highlighted strong changes in training work of the border guard force and troops’ high sense of responsibility to accomplish their assigned missions.

To consolidate whole people’s border defense posture and strengthen the efficiency of the movement “All people join hands in defending national territorial sovereignty, border security in new situation,” the VBG’s Staff has directed agencies and units to actively coordinate with local party committees, and authorities to disseminate information about national law to troops and people, encouraging them to enforce law, contributing to local socio-economic, cultural development, defense and security consolidation in border areas.
