PANO – A conference to review the compilation of the Vietnam Military Encyclopedia was held in Hanoi on September 29th under the chair of Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence.

The encyclopedia consists of six volumes, including Military History, Military Techniques-Logistics, Military Art of War, Military Figures, and Armed Forces’ Organizations.

Since 2005, under the instruction of the Steering Board for the encyclopedia compilation, relevant agencies have been working to establish criteria and goal of the work, held five training courses for hundreds of contributors and officers in charge, organized workshops to collect opinions and advice from scientists, experts, generals and people.

By this August, they fulfilled more than 91 per cent of the compiling work. As scheduled, the first volume “Military History” will be published by the end of this year while the final part of the encyclopedia will come to the public five years later.

Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty highly valued efforts of the workers and assigned the Department of Military Science under the Ministry of National Defence to continuously acquire suggestions to fulfill the task on time.

The general also stressed that during compiling the encyclopedia, the participants should seriously give prominence to accuracy and objectiveness, and respect historical facts, especially sensitive events.
