Missions assigned to pilots
“A pilot should always be selfless, especially when he is in the cabin,” said Major Vuong Dang Nam, Deputy Commander of the brigade, after he got out of the aircraft.
“Under our wings are lives of our citizens, comrades, and property that the Party, State, and people entrusted to us. Successful first training flights of the New Year encourage our entire unit to accomplish our mission in the year,” he added.
Brigade 954 is tasked to operate Ka28 anti-submarine helicopters and DHC-6 amphibious aircraft.
To ensure flight safety, commanding officers of the brigade deem that preparation plays a very important role. Therefore, before launching first training sorties of the New Year, each individual and section was assigned with specific tasks that they had to grasp thoroughly. Moreover, pilots’ and technicians’ determination have been stiffened and flight scenarios have been anticipated.

As for the training purpose, to dispatch the first flight at 0600 on February 6, preparations had to start at 0400. Accordingly, all relevant components such as techniques, logistics, and communication had to be inspected to ensure flight safety and mission requirements should be grasped strictly.
Colonel Pham Minh Tuan, Commander of Brigade 954, said that the unit assigned experienced pilots to conduct these first flights, but carefulness and precise coordination between the commanding officers on the ground and the pilots were stressed on to avoid even a small mistake that might affect flight safety.
Col. Tuan concluded that the successful first training flights of the year met the mission requirements and ensured flight safety, inspiring troops of the brigade to continue to accomplish all assigned tasks.
