The Vietnamese Engineering Company Rotation 2 included 184 members from different units in the whole military, including 28 personnel from MR1. After an eight-month training course at the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the company was deployed to the UNISFA to undertake the mission for 14 months, from August 2023.
Reportedly, during their term in Abyei, 28 personnel from MR1 and their colleagues in the company ensured smooth traffic to over 400km of roads, pioneered the mission’s “Smart Camp” project, and helped complete camp construction projects for Ghana, Pakistan, Nepal, and China.
In addition, the team also participated in humanitarian efforts as requested by the UNISFA, while teaming up with the company’s level-one field hospital to conduct six free health check-ups for local residents in Abyei.
The whole company and its personnel were presented with the medal “For U.N. peacekeeping cause”. Among them, many received merit certificates at all levels.
Their considerable achievements in task performance in Abyei contributed to spreading the image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and the peace-loving country of Vietnam to international friends, local authorities and people.
