During their stay in Germany, the delegation toured the Bundeswehr U.N. Training Center. At the meeting, delegates learned about the center’s structure, organization, and tasks; and observed the practices on several exercise scenarios at the U.N. Military Observer Course (DEU UNMOC) hosted by the center.

Reportedly, the Bundeswehr U.N. Training Center is a training facility of the German Army that specializes in pre-deployment training. It also conducts training for German public security and civilian personnel before deployment abroad.

According to Colonel Werner Klaffus, Commandant of the center, they conduct various training courses to make trainees familiar with their future tasks within the framework of a peacekeeping mission. Especially, the center’s DEU UNMOC is recognized by the U.N. and several organizations and is considered a model for troop contributors to U.N. peacekeeping operation to follow.

Major General Pham Manh Thang underlined similarities in training contents for pre-deployment which are being conducted by the center and the VNDPKO.

At the same time, the guest shared the active development on peacekeeping cooperation between Vietnam and European partners, including Germany. He hoped that the two sides would further intensify their effective cooperation with a focus on exchange of delegations, instructors, experts, and trainees.

Notably, the VNDPKO is gradually building specialized training courses on U.N. peacekeeping operations that are soon to receive recognition from the U.N. Thus, the department’s leader urged the center to share information. At the same time, Major General Pham Manh Thang underlined that the department is willing to welcome Germany peacekeeping experts to work at the department in order to expand ties between the two sides in the coming time.
