The competition features 27 teams with more than 1,300 athletes from various agencies, units, and schools under Military Region 5, competing in 12 events.

For regular soldiers, there will be nine events: a 3,000m armed run with obstacles, a "healthy soldier" contest, armed swimming, obstacle crossing, unarmed fight (for both men and women), men's volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and tennis. For the militia force, athletes will compete in three events: a combined three-military-game event, armed swimming, and unarmed fight. The competition will run until August 8, 2024.

An overview of the opening ceremony

In his opening speech, Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc emphasized that in recent times, competitions at various levels within the armed forces of the military region have seen many innovations and achieved significant practical results. The Defense Sports Competition 2024 aims to evaluate the physical training results and sports activities of regular soldiers and the militia force within the military region, thus selecting coaches and athletes for further training and preparation for the Whole-Military Defense Sports Competition 2024, he added.

Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc urged the organizing panel and referees to adhere strictly to the competition regulations while ensuring objective and accurate assessment during the competition. He also called on the athletes to show responsibility and determination to achieve the highest results.
