General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and State President To Lam presents the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title to Military Region 2.

He stressed the need to identify risks early, accurately assess developments, and promptly address problems at the grassroots level. Military Region 2 must strengthen coordination and information sharing with the Public Security forces, relevant agencies, and local authorities, while clearly defining responsibilities at all levels.

Praising the armed forces of Military Region 2 for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions over the past 80 years, General Secretary and State President To Lam noted that the national defense task is facing increasingly high requirements amid complex, uncertain, and unpredictable developments in the world and the region. Commanders at all levels must stay close to the grassroots, thoroughly understand local conditions, and prepare response plans, he said.

He called for stronger political resolve, strict discipline, and exemplary conduct among officers. Training must be closely aligned with assigned missions, terrain, and operational conditions, while exercises should test command capabilities, coordination, mobility, and emergency response. Military Region 2 should also keep pace with developments in military science and technology.

The Party General Secretary and State President urged troops to strengthen ties with local communities through practical support, respect for ethnic customs and languages, and attentive listening to residents’ concerns. In disaster-prone areas, forces must prepare personnel, equipment, and evacuation and search and rescue plans, giving top priority to protecting human lives while ensuring the safety of rescue forces.

He also stressed the need to improve logistical and technical support, living conditions for troops, and policies for military families and people with meritorious services to the revolution. Military Region 2 should step up the search, collection, and identification of martyrs’ remains under the “500-day campaign to accelerate the search, collection, and identification of martyrs’ remains.”

The military region was also urged to strengthen defense diplomacy, contributing to the maintenance of peaceful, friendly, and cooperative borders, and to concretize assigned tasks into action plans with clear responsibilities and regular reviews.

At the ceremony, General Secretary and State President To Lam presented the “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” title to the armed forces of Military Region 2 under the Ministry of National Defense in recognition of their outstanding achievements in training, combat readiness, military building, and national defense.

Maj. Gen. Tran Van Bac, Commander of Military Region 2, said that established on October 19, 1946, the military region has made important contributions to major victories during the resistance wars against French colonialism and U.S. imperialism, including the 1954 Dien Bien Phu victory and the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising. They also fought to defend the Northern border, notably on Vi Xuyen Front.

In the renewal period, Military Region 2 has continued to strengthen defense capabilities, build a firm all-people defense posture, and remain ready to successfully fulfill all assigned missions under all circumstances.
