Meeting solemnly held in celebration of General Van Tien Dung’s birthday
PANO - The Central Military Commission; the Ministry of National Defense; the municipal Party Committee, People’s Committee, and People’s Council of Hanoi and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a meeting on April 27 to celebrate the 100th birthday anniversary of General Van Tien Dung (May 2, 1917).
The meeting was attended by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; and other incumbent and former Politburo members and leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and other Central and local agencies.

At the meeting, Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich delivered a speech highlighting the life and contribution of General Van Tien Dung to the cause of national liberation, socialism building and protection of the Fatherland. The speech reaffirmed that General Van Tien Dung is a faithful communist, one of the outstanding followers of President Ho Chi Minh, a talented general of the heroic Vietnam People’s Army, and an excellent son of the capital.
On behalf of the Vietnam Veterans’ Association, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, Former Rector of the Army Officer College No.1, Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien shared, “In my heart, General Van Tien Dung is a teacher and a big brother. He is a general with far-reaching vision in developing military guidelines and art, suitable with different kinds of theaters and battlefields. He is a shining example of a veteran communist who was wholeheartedly devoted to the nation and the people.”

On behalf of the youth in the military, Senior Lieutenant Do Trung Kien, Second-in-Command Officer of Company 1, Armored Battalion 47 under the Hanoi Capital Command, said he spared great respect for General Van Tien Dung and followed his example to become a military officer. He greatly admired the contributions of the general towards the nation in general and the military in particular. He said, “Born and brought up in peacetime, we, the current young generation, always bear deep respect for the Party, Uncle Ho, and previous generations, who devoted their youth and even their lives to the national cause of winning independence and building a country of peace today. Following the example of General Van Tien Dung, we vow to dedicate ourselves to the cause of national building and defense, deserving to be successors in the cause of building the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.”
