Deputy Defense Minister inspects Coast Region 1
PANO - A delegation of the Ministry of National Defense led by Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, inspected the mission accomplishment of Coast Guard Region 1 on December 19.
According to reports at the inspection, the Command of Coast Guard Region 1 closely directed its affiliated units to grasp and implement their missions with best results, focusing on combat training, maritime sovereignty protection, search and rescue, and support for offshore fishermen.

In the year, the region held 98 mobile law dissemination drives for fishermen, handed out nearly 8,000 leaflets with different contents, and gave away more than 200 national flags and more than 200 life-jackets to fishermen.
Moreover, troops of the region inspected 138 ships and boats; imposed administrative fines on 297 vehicles; handled 35 cases of law violation at sea; captured more than 9,100 tons of coal, 24,500 kg of fuel oil and over 174 litters of diesel oil, and more, contributing nearly VND 7 billion (more than USD 300,000) to the State Budget. The region also busted cases of drug trafficking, capturing more than 11kg of heroin and over 3kg of synthetic drugs.
Concluding the inspection, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem hailed the achievements of Coast Guard Region 1, pointed out several shortcomings and required the region to fix them to better fulfill its assigned missions in the coming time, especially during the upcoming Lunar New Year festival.
